It’s wonderful when you whip through your tbr (to be read) pile and find a book you’ve never read before. Somewhere along the line, I picked up "The Waiting Game" at a second hand book store, promised myself I’d read it as soon as I could and then forgot about it. I love when I find an unexpected treasure like this and this book is definitely at treasure.

First of all, I have to say that this is Jayne Ann, most definitely. Hard, alpha male and wonderful, feisty heroine who falls for the alpha male, hook, line and sinker. Works for me every time. I also liked the fact that this book took place in the North West - Seattle area. I always think of that area as being a bit mysterious for some reason and the setting really worked well in this book.

Meet Adrian Saville, author. He’s mysterious, he’s gorgeous and he’s all alpha. He's a wounded warrior who's had to fight his way back from hell. It's been a long haul but he's put that part of his life behind him at the moment; then, into his hands, he’s been given Sara Frazer. Yep, you understand me right, he’s been given Sara as a beautiful gift from her loving Uncle Lowell.

Now, Sara’s a little burned out. She’s been working in management at a company along with all the rest of those yuppie types who make high demands of themselves. She hasn’t been happy for a long time and one day, she just ups and quits, packs her car and bundles herself off to her Uncle Lowell. Along the way, she drops in to search Adrian Saville’s house, trying to find a clue of where her uncle might be. See, she left a message on his machine but she’s come to realize he’s not there and hasn’t been for some time. She figures Adrian has the answers to her questions but she doesn't know the man. She figures a search of his home will give her what she's looking for and then she'll be on her merry little way.

This book has everything. Intrigue, kidnapping, mystery, love, and that alpha male. Adrian has sworn to protect Sara, from the world and from herself. He’s protective and mysterious in the best of alpha males. Jayne Ann has written a book that kept me on my toes from page one to end. I loved the story and I love the premise of who Adrian actually is. I even figured that one out on my own but it certainly didn't destroy the story for me. As the best, though, Jayne Ann threw in a good surprise or two that really worked well. At least, for me they did. Adrian Saville is really, truly a wounded warrior who’s so unobtrusive in some ways and so alpha in others. You just get the feeling, from the very beginning that he’ll go to great lengths to protect his friends and the woman he loves - no questions asked and without fail, no matter what that can do to him.

If you have one of those lazy, rainy Sundays coming up, here’s a book to grab and take to the couch with. You won’t regret it.
